Several Village Bank customers have reported suspicious calls and/or texts appearing to originate from The Village Bank. Most of this contact is initiated with the fraudster questioning a potential fraudulent charge on the customer’s account either by text or phone call. Once the fraudsters are able to speak to a customer, they are asking for personal/account information such as online banking credentials, account verification codes (RSA) or PINs, and debit card numbers. Please use caution as these calls appear to come from a legitimate The Village Bank phone number of (617) 969-4300. If you receive a call like this, please hang up immediately and contact us directly. In addition, if you receive a text message appearing to be from The Village Bank, ignore instructions to reply yes or no. The Village Bank will NEVER call, email or text you asking for personal information.
If happen to receive a call or text similar to what has been described above, please keep in mind:
- You should never give out personal or bank account information.
- Calls may be spoofed, and your caller ID may show the number as belonging to The Village Bank. You should call The Village Bank directly to ensure you are speaking to a legitimate bank employee.
- You should never share one-time passcodes, account information, online banking credentials, and/or debit card numbers.
- Never give remote access of your computer to anyone.
